Wedding Crafts - Homemade Wedding Favors

!: Wedding Crafts - Homemade Wedding Favors

One great way to add uniqueness to a wedding is to involve homemade wedding crafts. There are several areas of the wedding where you can use your creativity and skill to handcraft things. Probably the most famous to handcraft are the favors. Wedding favors are little gifts for the guests. Giving them away is one way for you to thank your friends and loved ones for attending the most special day of your life.

It is always worth planning in advance about the wedding favors to give out. Your budget, time, and number of guests are the major factors when it comes to your wedding favors. Depending on your available fund, you can buy or make your own souvenirs.

If you wish to handcraft your wedding favors, you have to start working way in advance especially if you are expecting hundreds of guests. A traditional wedding favor that you can easily make is a small favor box that is made up of sweets. Or you may fill it with chocolate or some rose petals. Sweets, petals, and even confetti are available in cheap prices if you cannot make them yourself.

Another wedding favor that you can handcraft is a seed packet wedding favor. Seed packets are now in trend. These are very easy to make yourself and you can get as creative as you want on these favors. You can shop around for special paper that is perfect for this project, such as pressed flower paper or clear glassine envelopes.

If you are opting for more fun favors to make yourself, why not consider wedding crackers? These are such fun to make where your family can get involved in. You may now start saving your toilet roll tubes for this project that will sure to amaze your guests. You can fill your very own crackers with chocolates, candies, seeds, confetti, flower petals or just about anything that you would want to fill in.

Personalized wedding CD's are also a great option to make at home. You can buy blank CD's at a very cheap price. Your personalized CD favors make classic and popular gifts for your guests. Simply compile a collection of your favorite songs or your wedding theme songs, or a combination of both. When choosing songs for your CD favors, choose an appropriate mixture that everyone will enjoy listening. Make your CD wedding favors more personalized by designing the covers with your sweet photo, the date of your wedding, and a romantic quote or poem.

When it comes to unique favors, one great suggestion is to handcraft them. If you don't have time to create them all, you can purchase cheap wedding favors in bulk and then wrap or package them yourself. That way, you can still add your own personal touch on each favor. If your wedding has a theme, make sure that you choice of favor reflects theme you have chosen. Don't forget to prepare something for the kids if the main wedding favors you have prepared don't fit their age. You can provide them bags of goodies, which they would surely appreciate.

What Is A Destination Wedding Favor?

!: What Is A Destination Wedding Favor?

Have you heard of destination wedding favors? I haven't either, so, I have taken it upon myself to pioneer this phrase. Destination weddings, destination wedding dresses, and now, "destination wedding favors". I like it!

So what is a destination wedding favor? Something affordable, something practical, something memorable, but something "packable".

Let's face it...you will be travelling. The last thing you need to worry about is the safe keeping of your wedding favors. You need favors that are not perishable, breakable or bulky. Something that you can easily slip into your luggage knowing that it will "make the trip" safely.

Candles and candy may melt, glass can break and larger items just take up too much space in the suitcase!

So what is a destination bride to do?

Here are a few ideas for the perfect "destination wedding favor"...

Silver plated luggage tags shaped like airplanes and cruise ships. What could be more perfect for your destination wedding guests? A "scratch and win" lottery ticket tucked inside a pretty glassine envelope is a fun idea. Wedding CD's are becoming very popular. Make your own. Include your wedding song, a favorite photo or two and a personal "thank you" on your disc. Make personalized bookmarkers. Design them to include a photo, your wedding date and a thank you note signed by the two of you. Once you are happy with the design, duplicate it, laminate it and dress it up with a tassle or an organza bow. You could use the same idea to create refridgerator magnets. Palm or paper folding fans make lovely favors that can be easily decorated to match any theme. Personalized pens, pencils or playing cards are something your guests can use. Flower seed favors are a happy reminder of your cherished day when planted. Paperweights are an attractive, useful memento.

Here is the perfect destination wedding favor - "Mini Books". These exquisite little books come in a variety of topics from wine tasting to humor. Bound in hardcover and customized by you, these tiny collectables make a very elegant gift that your guests will treasure. Compact, unbreakable and perfectly "packable"! You can find them at FavorsandFlowers.com.

Whether you buy your wedding favors or make them, you don't have to spend a fortune. They are an expression of your thanks to your guests for having shared your special day with you. Your guests will value the sentiment of your gift, not the cost.

I will leave you with one last thought...

Although giving wedding favors is a nice gesture, it is not a necessity!

If you find yourself needing to cut corners to stay within your budget, this is definitely a practice that could be overlooked without guilt. Few will even notice the absence of wedding favors!

Consider this...

Have you ever helped someone to clean up after a wedding? If you have, you will know that after and evening of wedding festivities, many guests do not even remember to take their wedding favor home with them!

The Basics of a Drag Racing Car

!: The Basics of a Drag Racing Car

Drag racing is now considered a sport and many enthusiasts are modifying their cars to make them suitable for the race track. However, for some beginners, finding out what they need to replace and equip their car with is not an easy task.

Remember that in drag racing, you will be dealing with speed and power. You need to be able to go from 0 to 80 in just a matter of seconds if you want to win. Here are some car parts that need to be in top shape and performance in drag racing regardless if you have stock or modified engine.

First of all, your tires would work twice as hard when you race as compared to just normal city driving. You need to make sure that your tires are in top shape and that they are from a recognized manufacturer so you would not risk tire punctures.

Secondly, you must make sure that your suspension has been modified in such a way that your front rear will be able to take in the speed. When your car moves from 0 to 80mph in just a matter of seconds, the tendency is your front end will raise, making you lose stability and speed in the process. On top of that, this event could lead to serious accidents as well.

Third, make sure that you have the proper safety equipments in your trunk, such as a fire extinguisher. Since you are dealing with car power, it is not uncommon for engines to overheat and ignite so you need to make sure you can put it off when it happens.

Drag racing is a dangerous yet exhilarating sport. It is important to make sure that your car is in top shape and that you know the necessary safety precautions before you proceed.

Where to Find Wedding Cake Bags

!: Where to Find Wedding Cake Bags

Deciding on wedding favors is one of the most enjoyable parts of planning a wedding. They're not as high-stress as the "big things," like the venue or the dress, and they allow the couple to add a creative and personal touch to the big day. A popular choice for favors often includes wedding cake bags, in which your guests can take home a slice of the wedding cake (or other goodies) to enjoy later.

You can find wedding cake bags online; many wedding and stationery sites carry them as part of their product line. Websites like sandscripts.com or lcipaper.com are a good place to start. In addition to picking a color, you can also pick a design and opt to put your names and the wedding date on them. If you don't need something so fancy and you're planning on having a lot of guests, you can buy glassine-lined bags in bulk from sites like usbox.com or mrtakeoutbags.com. You need to place an order of at least a thousand to order from these places, though the cost per bag ends up being much cheaper than compared with a stationery site. If you're having a large wedding-say, two hundred or more guests-and can find a practical use for the remaining bags after the wedding (if you own a store, or for putting together goodie bags for Christmas and birthdays), this might be the better deal. Otherwise, a stationery site is your best bet.

If you want, you can also go really low-tech and make them yourself, with a some paper bags from the store, wax paper, markers, and a free afternoon. Draw whatever you want on the outside of the bags and cut up some wax paper to line the bottom of the bag. Some curled ribbons for decoration and there you go, instant cake bags! If the couple has young children (whether from a previous marriage or between the two of them), this a great way to involve them with the actual wedding process.

For the more adventurous, Mirkwood Designs offers free templates on the Internet for all kinds of creative paper/cardstock goodness. Among the many selections available include goody boxes and puffy envelopes, perfect if you plan on sending your guests home with some candy or little favors instead of leftover cake. These are a little more involved than just plain bags, though not too difficult. They're also a bit more substantial and as a result have the possibility of being reused. They can also withstand some more intense decorations, like charms or buttons, to pretty them up.

Whatever your preference, there are plenty of options out there for cake bags. Pick what works best for you and you can't go wrong.

The Basic Coin Storage Containers

!: The Basic Coin Storage Containers

Ensure the safety and protection of your collection by knowing the products their holders are made from are safe and that they allow you to easily view them while prevent any movement that may cause your coins to be scratched.

While storing your collection always keep them away from direct sunlight and any heating or cooling vents. Keeping your collection placed safely within a safety deposit box or safe will also help reduce the risk of any moisture damage that may occur to your collection over time. Your collection should always be stored at a constant temperature year round in a controlled environment, such as bank vaults or safety deposit boxes. These offer excellent ways to control the storage temperature of your valuable coin collection.

Specialized collections or sets should always be stored within a coin album or its holder to help prevent any movement during storage. These albums allow the avid collector to view both the obverse and the reverse of each coin in their collection while offering them the most maximum protection from any elements of contaminants. Albums are specially designed to be placed upon a shelf or inside of a drawer with their binding facing outward and the edges of the album resting on the shelf or drawer itself. It is never wise to store your albums while they are lying flat on a shelf with multiple albums stacked on top of them. This action will only decrease the strength and durability of your album by increasing pressure placed on your coins.

While keeping your individual coins safely within rigid holders such as plastic 2x2 holders or slabs for long term storage will prevent any excess movement or possible damage to your coins. A holder that has been damaged will allow air or other contaminants to make contact with the surface of the coins over time. What ever coin holder you choose should not be able to scratch or put abrasions on your coins. That is why it is important to never remove your coins from their holders to protect them from damage. The holder should hold your coins firmly and gently, while not allowing the coin to roll around from inside of the holder.

Any storage system selected should be made from a safe material that are stable and non-degradable. They should also be free of plasticizes and any slip agents that may leak out and damage your collections. If the plastic that you store your collection in changes its properties over time, then it will turn yellow or even become sticky or brittle and cloudy. This is not a suitable material for the protection of your coins, nor is it a stable material.

Once considered safe for storage was cellulose acetate, but has now began to be rapidly falling out of favor due to it has been found to be able to degrade the coins by giving off an acetic acid. Another acidic material that should be avoided in any storage units is glassine. PVC or polyvinyl chloride tend to leach out of the plastic causing notes to become translucent and corrode your valuable coins by producing a type of green slime.

Another chemical that needs to be avoided is polyvinylidene chloride or saran tm, because can release hydrochloric acid. The quality of paper in envelopes are often in doubt and can cause abrasion to your coins. The blue type of cardboard folders that are used to store coins by type have holes in the cardboard which they are pressed, but the majority of this has been made of acidic cardboard and requires considerable force and handling to insert and removal of your coins.

Other storage units you need to be cautious of are coin tubes, which allow coins to rub against one another. Traditional wooden coin cabinets are not recommended either because wood tends to be acidic and the lining of these cases can also cause problems due to allowing your coins to move around inside of the drawers. Instead of using wooden cabinets a safe alternative would be enameled metal cabinets.

The most commonly used coin holders are called coin flips, which are inexpensive and provide valuable protection as long as they are made of a safe material. The only drawback is that your coins tend to slide around inside of the holder, so try to choose the closest size to your coin. Coin shells fit your coins exactly and have a foam ring insert that will hold your coins firmly in place. The most important thing to remember is to know what your holder is made of before placing your valuable coins inside of a storage container.

Tea Party Bridal Showers and Theme Weddings

!: Tea Party Bridal Showers and Theme Weddings

While everyone knows where tea originated, no one knows when the now worldwide custom of tea infusion began. Its origin is concealed in the shimmering mists of exotic legends of which the following is but one. One of the Emperors of China, who lived 5,000 years ago, was an excellent ruler and always delighted in setting a good example for his subjects. One of these was that he always boiled his drinking water. One day a few leaves from the branches which were burning under the pot of boiling water fell into it, giving it a delightful scent and flavor and making the water a drink indeed fit for an emperor. The branches were those of the wild tea plant. Apart from such charming fantasies however, what is certain about tea drinking is that it was widely practiced in China as early as the 6th Century. The new drink spread to China's neighbor Japan, very quickly, the earliest record of tea drinking in that country was in 729 AD when the Emperor Shomu invited 100 Buddhist monks to take tea in his palace. From that time on a most elaborate ritual grew up round the making of tea. It is called Cha-no-yu and is a long and intricate ceremony in which the hostess, the guests, all the tea-making utensils and even the room in which the tea is taken play set parts. Nowadays tea is made and drunk according to Western standards but the old ceremony is still taught and widely practiced. In the modern day tea has been incorporated into the ceremonial practice of a tea party and the comfort drink of the world.

With the increasing popularity of tea and tea wedding favors or tea bridal shower favors, tea party bridal showers and receptions are also becoming popular. If you are throwing a tea party bridal shower, especially on a budget, it is possible to create a setting elegant enough for even the most demanding tea connoisseurs without spending a whole lot of money. With some creativity and a little bit of time you can create a tea party bridal shower that will impress everyone. First of all, things don't have to match, or be traditional in order to be charming. It is not a big deal if you don't have a silver tea set or matching china. You can create a colorful and elegant table setting with completely mismatched tea things. Cups and plates don't have to match. You can always browse flea markets and garage sales to find cheap tableware. The napkins should be cloth of some kind, but it is not necessary for them to be fancy or expensive. Handkerchiefs can also be converted into napkins. You can serve simple little tea sandwiches and chocolates at your tea party. The important part is the tea. Make sure to serve several different kinds of tea. There are designer tea sachets available in several different flavors and make a very nice variety of teas. The pretty tea sachets also look very elegant when displayed as bridal shower tea favors or as a part of your tea menu.

Invite your tea party bridal shower guests with Victorian style lace fan invitations. These can be made easily with lace fans or sandalwood fans. Print your invitations on velum paper and cut them out in the shape of your fans, then glue the invitations to fans. They look quite lovely and make very unique invitations. An idea for favors is to give your bridal shower guests recipe book bridal shower favors. Ask your guest to send in their favorite recipes and put them together to create the book using parchment paper. Make sure to give the bride a special book of recipes. Another great idea is to serve the tea sachet favors for the bridal shower and give the personalized tea bags out as bridal shower favors. The individual personalized tea bag favor is available in many different colors and styles to suit your bride's personality. Tea is becoming the "in" drink of this decade. For brides and grooms looking to give their guests something unique by which to remember the happy occasion, designer tea favors is a "Tea-rific" way to say "thank you for sharing in our special day." Next to water, tea is the most popular beverage in the world. Personalized individually packaged tea bags present an idea that's right in sync with current consumer tastes and gives bridal couples a new alternative to traditional wedding favors! There are array of ways to offer tea favors to your guests. Tea bags come in beautifully designed packages as well as loose tea tins that can be personalized with designer labels and tags for special occasions. An inexpensive way to offer tea wedding favors is to purchase your favorite tea bags in bulk, then place each tea bag in a glassine envelope and embellish with pretty ribbon and a personalized tag or label. This is a fun DIY project that brides can do with family and girlfriends. The Wedding Tea Favors offers brides and grooms a stylish, personalized wedding favor at a great low price. Allow your guests to enjoy a warm, relaxing cup of tea while reminiscing about your wedding. The tea favor idea is not only great for weddings, but for tea parties and bridal showers as well.

The idea of a tea party does not need to end with the bridal shower. To continue the quaint tea theme, tea and tea party aperitifs can be served during the cocktail hour prior to the reception dinner. For this twist to your regular cocktail hour, you may want to find unique way to also serve cocktails, such as Long Island Ice Teas. For couples on a budget or those just wanting to do a cocktail wedding reception, a nice alternative is a tea party wedding reception. A tea party wedding reception reflects the couple's efforts to do more than just a simple cocktail party after the wedding ceremony. A tea party wedding reception shows effort and care on the couple's part as well as their personality.

Just because your theme is an elegant tea party does not mean you have to forget all about the java. If you are a coffee lover, then include coffee in your tea party bridal shower or tea wedding reception. After all, coffee was declared the national drink of the then colonized United States by the Continental Congress, in protest of the excessive tax on tea levied by the British crown. A romantic and unique idea for coffee lovers, the custom coffee favors are sure to wow your wedding guests. Present them at your wedding reception or tuck them inside your welcome baskets along with a heart shaped coffee scoop. Your guests will enjoy the rich aroma of fresh roasted coffee the day after your wedding. Coffee is popular and makes a useful wedding favor. Wedding coffee favors are personalized with the bride's and groom's name and wedding date on each pack. Coffee wedding favors and coffee bridal shower favors are also available in the same designs as the tea favors. Place the personalized coffee favors with silver heart coffee scoops for a pretty and romantic touch at each table setting. To offer variety personalized coffee and tea favors can be placed in baskets for wedding guests or bridal shower guest to pick up as they leave. That way your wedding or bridal shower guests can select the personalized tea or coffee favor of their preference as they go home.

Tea and coffee themes are making a come back and they are great for bridal showers or quaint backyard reception parties. Personalized coffee and tea wedding favors, as well as bridal shower favors are the chic new favor of choice for brides and grooms. The personalized coffee favors and tea favors are great for any wedding or bridal shower, yet they are ideal for a tea party themed event set in afternoon right before sunset. Your afternoon bridal shower or wedding reception will be a hit with the tea sachet favors, personalized coffee packet favors and personalized tea favors to suit your guests needs.

Collecting Found Objects For Vacation Scrapbooks

!: Collecting Found Objects For Vacation Scrapbooks

When it comes to scrapbooking your beach and vacation memories, you can do it the frugal way. While traveling on vacation, look for found objects along the way.

I like to pack in my suitcase a 2 pocket folder with 3 small zipper close plastic bags, as I collect things on our vacation, I can safely organize and store them until we return home.

Tip: For objects that are not acid and lignin free, you will need to purchase a small bottle of archival safe mist. You will want to lightly spray your items and let them air dry before scrapbooking with them.

Here are some objects to collect while on vacation.

1. Sand - Use an empty film canister or other small plastic container to collect a little beach sand. Once you are ready to scrapbook, you can place a little sand in a glassine envelope or paper pouch to use in your scrapbooking layout.

2. Restaurant Menu's - If you want to save some of those memories of dining out while on vacation, collect some paper menu's.

3. Beverage Coasters - Collect some paper or cork beverage coasters while eating out, these make great mats on your page layouts.

4. Tiny Seashells and Pebbles - Collect tiny seashells and pebbles while taking your beach walks in a plastic bag. Make sure they are small, smooth and flat in nature so that they don't bulk up your pages.

5. Hotel Room Keys - These days, a lot of hotels are using those flat plastic cards for room keys. Ask the front desk clerk if you can keep one for a souvenir since most hotels discard them after the guest leaves.

6. Travel Brochures - You can pick up a lot of travel brochures in the hotel lobby or at rest stops along the way. Some of these make great souvenirs for your scrapbooking layouts.

7. Door Knob Maid Service Hanger - I let the front desk clerk know that I collect those door hangers as a souvenir and I always ask for permission to keep one.

8. Travel Maps - You can pick up free travel maps at welcome centers and rest area stops. You can lightly spray them to make them scrapbook safe. I like to cut them up and use as a background accent or for matting vacation photographs.

9. Hotel Guest Goodies - These are the little things that the hotel gives to you that has their business logo on them such as pens, notepads and magnets. These items are left in your room and are free for you to take home.

10. Ticket Stubs - If you visit any movies, amusement parks, zoo's or other area attractions and get a ticket stub, make sure you keep them for your scrapbook.

5 Strange Things to Add to Your Scrapbook Pages

!: 5 Strange Things to Add to Your Scrapbook Pages

A few years ago, I asked the readers of my blog to tell me some of the weirdest things they've ever added to their scrapbook pages. While many of the answers didn't surprise me (as I had the same things in my scrapbooks!), but I was downright floored by some of the responses. Here are some of the strange and stranger items you can find between the pages of your sister scrapbookers' albums:

1. Pregnancy tests. This was actually a very common response, and I can understand why! Because it's the first tangible proof of the new life that is already growing inside you, it makes sense that you'd want to hold on to these little sticks. Some people are grossed out by the idea that you had to, ahem, "baptize" the test strip first, but I figure that's the least of my worries, compared to the other unattractive facets of pregnancy. (Just for the record, I have saved all three of my positive pregnancy tests, but have not yet put them in albums. I'm still trying to figure out what adhesive to use!).

2. Photos of the toilet-training process. Yes, it's an important milestone in your child's life, so much so that many moms have had to photograph the success and create a layout with "proof." (Do they think their kids won't believe they passed through that stage if they don't have evidence?) I have to admit I'd never been tempted to document this particular step towards growing up.

3. Used band-aids. Yup, more than one respondent to my blog post told me they'd saved used bandages from their kids' boo-boos to add to scrapbook pages. The bonus? I suppose you don't have to worry about adhesive to stick them to the page! If you think that one's bad, read on...

4. Stitches. No, not stitches like a little hand-sewn monogram. I'm talking about the stitches that might accompany #3 above. One of my readers saved them when the wound healed, and included them on her scrapbook page. I was so shocked, I forgot to ask her if she put a hazardous waste warning on the album's spine!

5. Sand and dirt. After the four above, sand and dirt don't sound so crazy, do they? In any case, taking a souvenir of a special place by scooping up a sprinkling of sand or dirt and including it in a little glassine envelope isn't an uncommon behavior. One well-traveled scrapper said her family saves a bit of sand from each beach they travel to. I say, Cool!
